COGST
had a successful weekend at the West District Junior
Open Championships at Larkhall on 6th and 7th of
October 2001. In this competition, restricted to
swimmers aged 14 years and under The club achieved
no fewer than 79 top six finishes.
There
were outstanding performances from Suzanne Robertson
with seven golds (100, 200, 400, and 800 free, 100
fly, 100 back and 200 IM) and one silver (100
breast) and Charles Mills with 4 gold (400 free,
1500 free, 200 fly, 200 IM), 4 silver (200 free, 100
fly, 100 back, 200 back) and 1 bronze (100 free).
Other
girls' successes were recorded by Sinead Docherty
with gold in the 800 free (also 1 silver (400 IM) and
1 bronze (400 free)), Aileen Stirling with gold in
the 200 back (and 1 silver (400 IM) and 2 bronze
(100 back, 200 IM)), Chantal Carr with gold in the
400 IM (and 2 silver (200 fly and 200 IM) and 1
bronze (800 free)), Katy Finnegan with 3 silver (
200 fly, 100 back, 200 back) and Jackie McNeil with
bronze in the 200 breast.
For the
boys, Jimmy Orr took silver in the 1500 free and
bronze in the 400 IM; Alasdair Reid, silver in
the 200 fly; Barry Andrews, 2 bronze (400 free, 200
IM); Jamie Forrest, bronze in the 1500 free; and
Mark Polland, bronze in the 200 free.
