At the British
Championships and Commonwealth Trials in Manchester,
10-15 April, Rebecca Cooke won the 400m and
800m freestyle events and Holly Fox took gold in the 400m
Individual Medley event to secure selection to the
England team for the Commonwealth Games in July.
Rebecca
continued her good form in Manchester by leading from
the start and winning the womens' 400m freestyle in a
personal best time of 04:13.27, well inside the
selection qualification time for the Commonwealth
Games. |
 |
| In the final
of the 800m freestyle event, 18 year old Rebecca again
led from start to finish taking gold in 08:35.75 almost
eight seconds ahead of second place. Rebecca was pleased
she achieved the qualifying time but said: "I would
have liked to have gone a bit faster as I wanted a PB
but it was not to be." |

|
Holly Fox,
18, also led from start to finish in the gruelling 400m
Individual Medley event in the best race of the last
night of the trials. Holly touched home in 04:50.32 with
Rebecca Cooke in second in a personal best time of
04:52.45. An exhausted Holly said:"That was hard. I
knew I had to build a lead over the earlier strokes but
it was close." |
Congratulations to Holly
and Rebecca and good luck at the Commonwealth Games in July!
