| At the three day ASA Nationals at the Coventry Leisure Centre from 28th to 30th June a small COGST team won the Best Women's Club award. This was the last competition before Holly Fox and Rebecca Cooke head for the Commonwealth Games in Manchester. |
Rebecca set one of the fastest times of her season to win the 400m freestyle. Despite the turbulent conditions in the pool, the 19-year-old touched home first in an impressive 4.14.16s ahead of teammate Holly Fox and Margaretha Pedder of Portsmouth.
"I could feel the waves coming at me as I came out of each turn," she said. "To swim that fast in these conditions is fantastic." |

Rebecca also won the 1500m final, finishing almost half a minute ahead of her nearest rival Caroline
Saxby. Her time of 16.22.45 was just outside her British Record. England's best long distance swimmer took some comfort though from her time as she is not yet rested and is naturally aiming to peak next month in Manchester.
"I was aiming for my British record but to do that time unrested three weeks out from the Games is good news. I'm really looking forward to Manchester where although there's not a women's 1500m event, I'm aiming to win both the 400m and 800m. I can only do my best on the day though so we'll see what happens."
Rebecca who is likely to compete in three events for England in the Commonwealth Games followed her win in the 1500m with a personal best time in the 200m freestyle and a decisive win in the 800m freestyle in a time of 8.38.95 just outside her
PB. |

Bryony Fox took bronze in the 800m and 4th in the 1500m freestyle events. Susan Black was 10th in the 1500m freestyle.
