Rebecca Wins Two Gold Medals in Manchester!!

City of Glasgow Swimmer, Rebecca Cooke swam superbly to win two Gold Medals at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester. The first came in the Women's 800m freestyle final on Friday (2nd August). After qualifying fastest in the heats with a personal best time of 8:33.31, Rebecca was favourite to take the gold in the final.

With two former 800m short course world record holders, Janelle Atkinson from Jamaica and Australia's Amanda Pascoe in the final however, Rebecca needed to produce her best to win. Another 5 second PB time of 8:28.54 was enough to win the race with Amanda Pascoe second and Janelle Atkinson third.

In the 400m freestyle on Saturday Rebecca started as favourite to repeat her success and a comfortable qualifying time of 4:13.19 saw her through to the final in first place. In the final Becky produced another lifetime best time of 4:09.49 to come home two seconds ahead of Australia's Elka Graham with Janelle Atkinson from Jamaica in third place.

On the last day of the Games both Rebecca and Holly Fox competed in the gruelling 400m IM. Both swimmers made the final with Rebecca finishing joint fourth in 4:47.23, just 0.12s outside the Bronze medal position. Holly finished 7th in 4:54.06.

Congratulations to Rebecca and Holly on their fine performances at the Games.
