On Saturday 22 March 2003, Robert Wilmot of City of Glasgow MASTERS will swim his eighth SWIMATHON. Although this event is usually 5 kilometres (a little over 3 miles) this year Robert will attempt the ‘endurance swimathon’ of 10,000m.

Over the last seven years he has raised over £1,058.50 for a variety of different charities. This year the money will once again primarily benefit Macmillan cancer relief and he would be grateful if you would consider sponsoring him.

There are over a million people living with cancer in the UK today.

Macmillan is the charity that helps people to live with cancer. Through the expertise of our Macmillan nurses, doctors and other services, Macmillan provides the care, treatment and information that each individual with cancer needs and deserves.

From the moment cancer is diagnosed, Macmillan are there for them, offering support through our network of cancer services. This personal, one to one attention helps people to get on with their lives - in spite of cancer.

The money you raise through Butlins Swimathon 2003 will help us to continue our work. Swimmers can even choose to support Macmillan services which are local to them (see section D of the entry form).

Providing emotional support, pain relief, symptom control and information.

Delivering cancer treatment and care, as well as advising and teaching other health professionals.

Patient grants

Helping ease the financial difficulties that cancer patients may experience because of their illness.

15% - THE SWIMATHON FOUNDATION

The Swimathon Foundation was established to help swimmers and pools become more directly involved with the way their sponsorship money is spent. Grants of up to 5,000 are available for small, local charities, which benefit the communities around the Butlins Swimathon 2003 pools. A UK-wide issue will also be selected each year and grants of up to 1oo,ooo will be available to charities tackling these issues
