Glasgow City Council Sports Awards 2002 City
of Glasgow Swim Team won the best sports
team of the year and our Head Coach, Steve
Hill, won the Best Male Coach of the Year.

COGST Graded Meet 2003
|
|
The City of
Glasgow Swim Team Long Course Graded Meet will take
place at Tollcross on Saturday 11th January 2003.
Once again the Meet has proven extremely popular
with teams coming to Glasgow from all over the
country. A draft programme can be found on the Meets
Page.
It is
important that all COGST timekeepers and officials
please try to come to this meet to ensure it's
success. Anyone willing to help on the day (not
necessarily on poolside) should contact any
committee member or e-mail

Club members will
now have the opportunity to sponsor individual
events at the
COGST Long Course Graded Meet. Please look out for
the letter which you will receive
soon in the post.
We also plan to run a
tombola at the Meet and any donations would be
greatly appreciated and should be passed on to
Kathie Robertson, Pearl Punshon, Pool Reps or
Coaches.

West District Junior Open Championships
Dunoon, 5\6th October, 2002
|
|
COGST swimmers had
their best ever West District Junior Championships
at the Riverside Leisure Centre, Dunoon recently.
The Team amassed 13 gold, 15 silver and 16 bronze
medals as well as 31 4th-6th places and eleven West
District Records.
Top performers for
the girls were Chantal Carr (5 gold and 1 silver),
Aileen Stirling (3 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze),
Laura Galbraith (1 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze),
Suzanne Robertson (1 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze)
and Kirstie Muir (1 gold and 1 bronze).
The most successful
boys were; Daniel Burns (1 gold and 2 silver),
Andrew Park (1 gold and 1 silver).

Due to flooding
Springburn pool will be closed for the next two to

Parents
and swimmers are invited to attend a meeting in
Knightswood Community Hall on 22nd August 2002 from
7.00 to 8.00pm. This meeting will give you an
opportunity to meet Lindsay Powell, West area Head
Coach, the coaching team and committee members.
Lindsay will outline the programme for the year and
answer any queries that may arise at the meeting.

At the recent
Scottish Nationals at Tollcross City of
Glasgow were Top Women's Team and Top Overall
Club. COGST swimmers achieved 33 Scottish National,
Open and Age Group Champions, breaking a host of

On Saturday 15th June
City of Glasgow A team took part in the Clyde Coast
Mini-League Final at the Citadel Sports Centre, Ayr.
In a closely fought competition COGST came out on
top for the fourth year in a row. The final result
was as follows:

COGST
'A' qualify for Mini-League Final
City of
Glasgow A team have qualified for the Clyde Coast
Mini-League Final at the Citadel Sports Centre, Ayr
on Saturday 15th June 2002. The A team, holders of
the Trophy for the last three years qualified again
this year in first place. This year for the first
time COGST also ran a B team which came a creditable
9th in the league. The
warm up for the final is at 5pm for a 5.30pm start.
We need to supply officials and timekeepers for the
final. Could volunteers inform Dave Hill as soon as

Grand Prix
Final attracts top British Swimmers
The second COGST Long
Course Meet incorporating the Speedo Grand Prix
Finals takes place at Tollcross from Friday 17th to
Sunday 19th May 2002. Our meet has attracted almost
all of the top British swimmers in the run up to the
Commonwealth Games later in the year and should
provide some exciting swimming especially in the
newly introduced "skins" events.
COGST are running
this meet so it is vital that as many officials and
other helpers from our own club volunteer to come
along and make the event as successful as possible.

Swimmers Selected for Commonwealth Games!!
At the British
Championships and Commonwealth Trials in Manchester,
10-15 April, Rebecca Cooke won the 400m and
800m freestyle events and Holly Fox took gold in the 400m
Individual Medley event to secure selection to the
England team for the Commonwealth Games in July.

Sunday 24th March City of
Glasgow competed in the Premier Division of the
Speedo National League for the first time. In a
closely fought match COGST finished in fourth place.

Swimmers Represent Scotland
at Schools International
| Congratulations
to the five COGST swimmers who represented
Scotland at the Schools International at the
Inverness aquadome on 23rd March. |

In the individual events, new COGST swimmer
Jamie Griffiths was second in the 100m
breaststroke in a new club record of
01:11.51s. Katy Taylor came third in the
100m fly in 01:06.25s, also a new club
record, and Chris Brannan was 4th in the
200m IM in 02:16.47s.
Barry
Andrews and Hannah Dewar also represented
Scotland in the relay events. Barry was a
member of the Junior boys 4 x 50m freestyle
relay team which set a new British Schools
record at the meet.
