West District Group 1 Championships- 4th & 5th February 2012 Meet Report

Congratulations to all swimmers who competed at Cumbernauld this weekend at the West Districts Group 1 a big thank you to the Glasgow STO’s for their support.

The weekend produced 88 personal best swims with 19 medals a fantastic effort from all swimmers. The new format for this West District required swimmers to compete a the heat and then final within the one session some swimmers competed in ten races over the weekend.

The coaching staff on duty commented “this has been a great effort from our swimmers and their positive approach to their racing has produced some fantastic Personal best times”. It is important for all swimmers to continue to attend training regularly and apply themselves in every session to continue this success.

During the weekend the club struggled to have the required STO representation which almost resulted in the club being fined. Please can I ask all parents to volunteer some of their time at competitions (if you all do one or two sessions then the load can be shared) especially West District competitions where we are fined if we don’t have the required representation.

COGST Training Camps 2012

Following the success of our warm weather camp in Lanzarote last year, the club is currently organising two training camps this year.

All eligible swimmers in Junior development 2, Junior Performance and Senior Performance squads should have received a letter from their coach giving details.

Change to Training Times

Saturday 4th February training for the Junior performance squads will be at Springburn from 5.30-7.30 am water and 7.30-8.30am land for any swimmers not competing at the West Districts. Training for the Junior Development squad 1 West has been changed on Monday 6th of Feb and is now at Maryhill from 5-6.30pm. This is due to a schools gala being held at Drumchapel that day. Brodies Scottish Schools Swimming Championships 2012

On Saturday 28 January 17 swimmers from City of Glasgow competed at East Kilbride’s Dollan Aquatic Centre in the Scottish Schools Championships. They had qualified for this meet through Area heats in November 2011.

There were some excellent swims throughout the day with 9 medals being won by CoG swimmers and one Scottish Schools record being broken by Anna Fleming.

New Committee Members Needed!!!

The management committee currently have several vacancies for new members to join the team. We are looking for willing, enthusiastic volunteers to give up a small amount of their time to help with the running of the club. There are a number areas that we could do with extra support from advertising and marketing to organising social events and fundraising. No experience is necessary as full support will be given. We meet once a month at The Adelphi Centre(right next to Gorbals Swimming Pool) and meetings normally last 2-3 hours. For those that have considered joining the committee in the past now is a great time to try it out. Our AGM is in May so any new members will be co-opted on till then, at which time they can choose to stand for a further term. We would love to see some new faces at our next committee meeting which will be at 6pm on ~~Tuesday 7th February~~ Tuesday 14th February at the Adelphi Centre.
