Out of the 12 awards presented on Saturday night .. 2 of the awards where won by COGST swimmer MARK DEANS... What an achievement...

In the Scottish domestic season, Mark won almost all that was available to him in at junior level is contending the senior medals. He is the Scottish Junior Champion at both 5 Km and 2 Km and was a close second place in the Senior 5 Km event. He was the winner of the junior events at the East, West and North District Championships. These combined efforts meant that he was a clear winner of the Junior Grand Prix.

Mark also achieved at events in England, firstly winning the Senior ASA Midland region 5 Km championships before taking the Silver Medal at the 13-14 year category of the ASA Championships where he was within half a second of winning.

Mark competed in seven rounds of the French Open Water Cup in 2009 during three separate tours. The first two of these was as part of the British Open Water Swimming Squad which competed in two events including the French 5 Km Championships. In both these events was the fastest swimmer in his category.

He was a member of the Scottish development squad which completed at three venues. Mark returned with trophies form all three of his events ranging from 1.5 Km to 10 Km including a win in his age category over 5 Km.

At the end of the season, and as a result of his achievements to that point, Mark gained selection as a member of the Scottish senior team to compete in the final two French Cup events. Following a strong performance at 5 Km where was the winner in his age category, he went on to win the silver medal in the senior 10 Km event against good French opposition and ahead of the more senior members of the Scottish team.

The Awards Mark received are as follows :-

Scottish Schools International W.I.S.E (Wales, Ireland, Scotland and England) Championships Print E-mail
Written by John Phillips
Tuesday, 02 March 2010

The club has been asked by Scottish Schools Swimming Association to provide helpers (minimum age 10) for the forthcoming Scottish Schools International W.I.S.E (Wales, Ireland, Scotland and England) Championships that is being held at Tollcross Leisure Centre on Saturday 20th March 2010. The helpers are needed to work with the boxes, in which the swimmers place their clothes at the start of each race, for morning and late afternoon sessions on the day. Runners are also required to post results throughout each session.

There is also a need for Chaperones to supervise the children on the poolside at each session. Anyone who volunteers for this must either be in possession of or, undertake a disclosure check.

If you are willing to represent the club by helping at this very prestigious event, then please contact Pearl Punshon either on 0141 573 3234 or at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it as soon as possible.

I will contact all volunteers nearer the date to give more details.

PLEASE NOTE THAT NO ONE SHOULD “JUST TURN UP” ON THE DAY. PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS HAVE TO BE MADE WITH MYSELF AS POOLSIDE PASSES FOR ALL HELPERS HAVE TO BE PREPARED IN ADVANCE.
