Home Meets

Our club runs three meets a year and is hoping to increase this to four, however it is the same people who help at these meets every year – most of these helpers don’t even have swimmers in these meets. The committee have decided on the following course of action to try and ensure that more people volunteer to help at these meets before we have to cancel them due to lack of help.

On the meet entry form for our meet in May you will notice that parents have been asked to indicate which session they are available to help in and everyone who is entering this meet should indicate at least one session where they can assist. The committee have taken the decision that if you don’t volunteer to help then your child will not be entered in this meet.

All City of Glasgow Technical Officials are expected to work at this meet, which I am delighted to say most of them do, but there are always other jobs that we need help with and I will list a few below to explain.

We the committee appreciate that you may feel daunted by the prospect of helping at a meet but adequate guidance will be given on the day. There are loads of small jobs that anyone could do such as:

Warm-up supervisors to stand at each end of the pool to stop children climbing out over the touch pads during the warm ups at the start of every session. These volunteers are needed for about an hour before each session starts. We need volunteers to supervise the swim down pool during each session; to sell raffle tickets; to cover door entry and changing room entry to ensure that parents, swimmers and coaches go through the correct area to get to the pool.

There are other tasks which are more strenuous but again we need volunteers to learn these tasks to allow the usual people some time off - e.g. marshalling, medal presentations etc.
