COGST swimmers do not only have amazing success in the pool, they are also pretty stunning when swimming in open water! Three COGST swimmers started the Open Water season by bringing home a gold medal each! James Leitch, Glenn McIntosh and Mark Deans won their respective events at the SASA East District Championship which was held at on June the 7th. James swam 3kms and Glenn and Mark both swam 2kms at the beautiful Lochore Meadows Country Park. An excellent start to the season. More success has followed. A series of 5km events over the summer make up the highly competitive ASA Open Water 5km Grand Prix 2008. On July 12th the swimmers went to down to Wykeham Lakes in Scarborough where Jamie Forrest took 1st place, James Leitch came 2nd and Mark Deans came 3rd. The next day they travelled to Bosworth in Leicestershire where James came 2nd and Mark Deans came 3rd. A week later Mark traded places with James by beating him to 2nd place at Whittingham Lakes in Norwich! These results are fantastic and congratulations go to all the swimmers! The final of the Grand Prix is held on the 10th and 11th of August at the British Open Water Championships at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham. We wish each swimmer lots of luck. Yet more good news... The Scottish Junior Team is now even stronger as Mark Deans has been selected to represent them at both the French Open Water Championship on the 30th and 31st July in Chalain, France and at the Hoorn International Open Water competition in Holland on the 2nd and 3rd August. What an achievement! Well done Mark!
