Bag Packing - Asda - Thank you!(20th August 2005)

Thanks to all the swimmers and parents who helped out at the bag packing today in Asda. Some photos are available here Don't forget that there is another bag packing day on 4th September in Sainsbury at Braehead for all those attending the Warm Weather camps in October..

General Fundraising(20th August 2005)

The Club has arranged a bag packing day for Saturday 27th August at Parkhead Forge, from 10.00am - 4.00pm, swimmers not taking part in the Australia /Spain bag packing days are invited to help out - monies raised from this event will be for Club Funds.

We are also using Spree Books as Fundraising, each book costs £20 and each book sold will raise £8 for Club Funds. .Swimmers will recieve one book each Should they wish to purchase the book the amount due should be given to their Coach, if they don' t wish to purchase the book ,the book must also be returned to the Coach..

As some famillies have more than one swimmer and different coaches they may receive more that one book - we are only hoping to sell one book per familly therefore these books can be returned.

All monies and books must be returned by 9th September .

REBECCA COOKE SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDS WORLD TITLE(16 Aug 2005)

The Glasgow University student took the lead from the half-way point and held on to finish more than a second ahead of the field in 8:31.43. Hayley Peirsol of the USA finished second in 8:32.89 and Romania’s Camelia Potec finished in bronze position in 8:33.33.

On the third day of the Games Rebecca took silver in the 400m Freestyle in a time of 4:12.11 behind Camelia Potec (4:10.88) with Chanelle Charron-Watson of Canada in third place.

Becky collected her third medal of the Games in the 400m Individual Medley. Her time of 4:45.62 put her a second ahead of bronze winner Nicole Hetzer (Germany) but wasn’t quite enough to challenge gold medallist Hui Qi of China who finished in 4:45.24.

“I’m very pleased with the medal and it was just short of the British record I set last week,” said Cooke. “I’m particularly happy as this is my third competition in a row and it was good to improve on the bronze I won in this event two years ago. I’ve got the 1500m freestyle tomorrow – I’m feeling strong and looking forward to it.”

Rebecca’s personal medal haul rose to three silvers and a gold with a silver in the 1500m Freestyle on the penultimate day of the Games.

Glasgow’s Cooke has once again helped boost the British medal count following a starring role at the Championships just two years ago, and once more - thanks to the bulk of medals secured in the pool - Great Britain is within the top 10 on the overall Games medal table.

Cooke, who was defending her title in the 1500m event, lost out to American Hayley Peirsol who bettered the Glasgow swimmer’s performance of two years ago to win the event in a new Games Record time of 16:08.06. Leading from the start, Cooke was unable to keep up the strong pace and took silver in 16:22.47. Jana Pechanova of Czechoslovakia picked up the bronze in 16:37.77.
