TIME TRIALS

Tollcross Leisure Centre

Sunday 27th September 2009

Warm up 4pm, start 4.30pm, finish 6.00pm (approx).

The club will be running a Time Trials on Sunday 27th September from 4pm until 6pm at Tollcross Leisure Centre.

This will provide a competitive opportunity for swimmers to improve their times in order to gain entry to more competitions.

Due to limitations on lane space it is open to all swimmers in Transition, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Senior Squads only.

Swimmers in other squads who do not have a current time for an event may only attend if asked to do so by their coach.

On this occasion we will be timing swimmers in Freestyle and Backstroke with each swimmer being able to swim a maximum of two events.

  • Transition, Bronze and Silver may swim 50 Freestyle and 50 Backstroke.
  • Gold, and Seniors may swim 100 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke.

We will be running more Time Trials throughout the season when we will cover other strokes and distances. All swimmers should bring a spare towel and T shirt to dry off and keep warm between swims.

To ensure all swimmers are able to be timed we will need some parents to help on poolside as timekeepers. You don’t need any experience so if you are able to help please send your details to: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or just come forward on the day.

We will also be running a Swim Shop during Time Trials where you will have the opportunity to buy Club Kit.

Please note that there will be no Sunday evening training for any squads at Tollcross or Scotstoun on this date.

Hi, I am relatively new to this. Just to clarify, this is open to any child swimming in Transition, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Senior in any location in Glasgow? My child is in Silver, swims at Knightswood, has an entry time for the freestyle 50 metres -- so she can just show up on the day at the stated time, wait her turn and attempt to better her time? This may seem like an obvious question, but sometimes it is hard to new parents to be sure of all the rules. Sincerely Sarah Oates

Hi Sarah

Yes you are quite right any City of Glasgow swimmer in the squads stated can swim regardless of which pool they train at.

Your daughter simply needs to turn up at Tollcross, I would suggest by 3.45 at the latest. The kids will have the chance to have a warmup, like they would do at any training session, then the time trials will begin.

It is advisable that she brings a t-shirt and a spare towel, it is likely that after the warm up she will be waiting on poolside till it is her turn to swim so she may get cold. She should also bring a drink and light snack ie maybe a bit of fruit or cereal bar.

Before it starts all children will get asked what they are wanting to swim. So for your daughter because she is in the Silver squad she could swim both the 50m free and the 50m back if she wished. It is a great oportunity for them to practice in a race like event.

I hope this makes sense.

avatar Thanks Mairi, just to further clarify - unlike normal meets swimmers don't need to already have any recorded times to come along to time trials. So if you have never been timed for 50Free, 50Back etc. you can still come along.

The main reason for running Time Trials is to ensure everybody can get a time which will allow them to enter competitions.

Also worth noting for anybody who doesn't know, once you have finished your two swims you are free to go - no need to wait until the end.

The results of the time trials will be posted on the website and should also show in your times database.
